I too am a Jack of All trades, freelancer for hire who're served Fortune 500's as a contractor for several years.

I've oscillated from one skill to the next to keep me going. I find I can't often use the talents I'm most passionate about in my contract hires, where they want me to be an operations engineer (servers and networking), but end up deploying great sites on my own using cPanel and mySQL that rival my salary.

It's a huge drain on time tho when I do moonlight and I become a total shut in.

I do find diversity and specializations are helpful in unison. There's times when u need focused attention to an issue and times when u need a guy to be able to sail the ship alone for a bit.

I"m mostly an architect if you will, or a designer. I farm out program development to proper geeks (specialized) and proprietary designs I will use a specialized designer to do the PSD which saves me time as well. Time is the premium.

I know HTML, FBML, FBJS, JS, etc. Very dangerous with the snippets :P

I will say in closing that the biggest issue I've faced in my adventures has been communication barriers and dealing with 'offshore' vendors. They have been the single largest disaster to any project in terms of financial loss in slipped launch dates and poor documentation. In short, stay away from Indian/Chinese support for English speaking staff/clientèle.
